The Chargers have acquired 31-year old WR Patrick Crayton from the Cowboys for a 7th round pick in 2011.  Crayton played in 16 games (6 starts) for the Cowboys last season and he caught 37 passes for 622 yards (16.8 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Crayton also carried the ball 4 times for 28 yards (7.0 ypc) last season and he also returned 36 punts for 437 yards (12.1 avg) with 2 TD returns.  Crayton has now played in 82 games (33 starts) in his six years with the Cowboys in which he caught 196 passes for 2,888 yards (14.7 avg) with 23 TD grabs.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 39 yards (6.5 ypc) and he returned 111 punts for 1,066 yards (9.6 avg) with 2 TDs.  This was an outstanding pickup for the Chargers as Crayton will likely start the season #3 on the Chargers’ depth chart with the potential to move into the starting lineup at some point.

The Chargers have traded 27-year old linebacker Tim Dobbins to the Dolphins as part of the deal to move up and select RB Ryan Mathews in the first round of the NFL Draft.  Dobbins played in 14 games for the Chargers last season making 55 tackles, he had 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, he forced 1 fumble, defensed 1 pass and he had 1 interception.  Dobbins played in 62 games in his four years with the Chargers and he made 151 tackles, defensed 6 passes, had 1 sack, forced 5 fumbles and he had 2 interceptions.  This will hurt the Chargers’ depth at linebacker but they felt they had to make this deal if they wanted a starting type RB.

The San Diego Chargers trade Charlie Whitehurst to the Seahawks

The Chargers have traded 27-year old QB Charlie Whitehurst and their second round pick  in the 2010 NFL Draft for the Seahawks’ 2nd round pick in 2010 and a third round pick in 2011.  Whitehurst played in 2 games in his career with the Chargers in which he didn’t attempt any passes.  He did carry the ball 2 times for 13 yards (6.5 ypc) with a TD grab for the Chargers.  Whitehurst was the #3 QB for the Chargers so maybe the GM can take off his ski mask.  The Chargers will move up 20 picks in the second round this year in the exchange of picks.

The Chargers have traded 25-year old CB Antonio Cromartie to the Jets for a conditional third round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft that could improve to a 2nd rounder based on Cromartie’s P.T. and the Jets’ team performance.  Cromartie played in all 16 games for the Chargers last season and he made 33 tackles, had 3 interceptions and he defensed 10 passes.  Cromartie also returned 3 kickoffs for 41 yards (13.7 avg) for the Chargers last season.  Cromartie played 4 years for the Chargers appearing in all 64 games in which he made 165 tackles, defensed 41 passes and he had 15 interceptions (2 TD returns).  He also returned 19 kickoffs for 442 yards (23.3 avg) with the Chargers.  Cromartie’s play has declined the last couple of years but he still has a nice upside.
