The Chargers have lost 29-year old backup center Scott Mruczkowski for the rest of the season due to a nasty concussion.  He played in 10 games (1 start) for the Chargers this year.  He has now played in 83 games (16 starts) in his first seven years in the NFL.  This is going to hurt the depth of the Chargers’ offensive line.

The Chargers have placed 30-year old guard Kris Dielman on the Injured Reserve List due to a nasty concussion.  Dielman played in six games (all starts) for the Chargers last year.  He has now played in 120 games (97 starts) in his first 9 years in the NFL, all with the Chargers.  The Chargers are going to miss Dielman, especially in the running game.

The Chargers have placed 25-year old OLB Larry English on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season, due to a broken left foot.  English played in 5 games for the Chargers this year and he had 7 tackles and 2 sacks.  He has now played in 29 games in his first three years with the Chargers and he has 60 tackles, 7 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  This is going to hurt the Chargers a little bit as English is a pretty solid pass rusher.

The Chargers must not have done their homework on 30-year old safety Bob Sanders before signing him.  They have placed the very injury prone Sanders on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a knee injury.  Sanders played in 2 games for the Chargers this year and he had 12 tackles.  He has now played in 49 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 303 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 6 interceptions, 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 8 tackles for a loss.  The Chargers should have known better then to sign Bob Sanders.

31-year old starting TE Antonio Gates might elect to sit out the next 3-5 weeks due to his foot injury.  He has played in 2 games for the Chargers so far this year and he has caught 8 passes for 74 yards (9.3 avg).  32-year old Randy McMichael will continue to start at TE until Gates is ready to return to action.  McMichael has played in all three games for the Chargers so far this year and he has caught 8 passes for 77 yards (9.6 avg).  The Chargers know that McMichael is a solid receiver but they are going to miss Antonio Gates, who is one of the very best TEs in all of football.
