The Chargers took a 21-10 lead into the half in New Jersey yesterday.  But, then Rex Ryan made adjustments while Norv Turner didn’t not.  The result was that the Jets beat the Chargers 17-0 in the second half to win the game!  Philip Rivers was awful again yesterday as he completed 16 of 32 passes for 179 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Mike Tolbert led the way on the ground for the Chargers in this game with 11 carries for 58 yards (5.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Ryan Mathews pitched in with 39 yards rushing on 13 carries (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 26 yards (6.5 avg) in this game.  TEs Antonio Gates (5 rec, 54 yards, TD) and Randy McMichael (3 rec, 45 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Chargers yesterday.  The Chargers finished up with 96 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 32 passes (50%) for 172 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 27:14.

The defense was so-s0 in this game for the Chargers.  LB Donald Butler (9 tackles and a fumble recovery that he returned 37 yards for a TD), safety Steve Gregory (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and LB Takeo Spikes (7 tackles) led the way for the Chargers on D yesterday.  Safety Eric Weddle (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and LB Shaun Phillips (6 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) also had big games for the Chargers yesterday.  The Jets finished up with 162 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 33 passes (54.5%) for 156 yards.  The Chargers are now 4-2 on the year.

San Diego Chargers 29, Denver Broncos 24

The Chargers had to fight tooth and nail to hold off the Broncos yesterday in Denver.  Philip Rivers was so-so again as he completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (it was returned 55 yards for a TD by Broncos’ CB Cassius Vaughn).  Rivers also carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards (3.3 ypc) with 1 TD run and a lost fumble.  Ryan Mathews led the way on the ground for the Chargers in this game with 125 yards rushing on 24 carries (5.2 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 7 yards.  Fullback Jacob Hester got in on the action with 47 yards rushing on 11 carries (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 13 yards (6.5 avg) in this game.  Mike Tolbert pitched in with 24 yards rushing on 5 carries (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 25 yards (8.3 avg).  WR Malcom Floyd led the way in the passing game for the Chargers yesterday with 3 grabs for 100 yards (33.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WR Vincent Jackson (3 rec, 34 yards) and TE Randy McMichael (4 rec, 29 yards) also pitched in for the Chargers in the passing game.  The Chargers finished up with 206 yards rushing on 43 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 29 passes (62.1%) for 212 yards as they had possession of the ball for 40:08.

The defense was good against the pass but not so hot against the run yesterday.  LB Takeo Spikes (5 tackles), LB Donald Butler (4 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and CB Antoine Cason (4 tackles and 1 pass defensed) led the way for the Chargers’ D in this game.  The Broncos finished up with 162 yards rushing on 23 carries (7.0 ypc) and they also completed 10 of 23 passes (43.5%) for 113 yards.  The Chargers are now 4-1 on the season.

The Chargers played a solid game on both sides of the ball yesterday and it led to a rather easy win over the Fish.  Philip Rivers was solid as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 307 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 18 yards (3.6 ypc) yesterday.  Ryan Mathews had another solid game as he rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries (5.1 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 68 yards (13.6 avg).  Mike Tolbert carried the ball 6 times for 17 yards (2.8 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 5 passes for 51 yards (10.2 avg) in this game.  WR Vincent Jackson led the way in the air for the Chargers with 108 yards on 3 grabs (36.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Chargers finished up with 116 yards rushing on 28 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 31 passes (67.7%) for 295 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:18.

The defense was outstanding for the Chargers yesterday.  Safety Eric Weddle (8 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 QB hit and 1 interception) and LB Takeo Spikes (8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Chargers’ D in this game.  CB Marcus Gilchrist (6 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception) and LB Larry English (3 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) also had solid games for the Chargers.  The Dolphins finished up with 72 yards rushing on 22 carries (3.3 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 30 passes (66.7%) for 176 yards.  The Chargers are now 3-1 on the year.

San Diego Chargers 20, Kansas City Chiefs 17

The Chargers had to hold off a pesky Chiefs team that came to California to fight yesterday.  Philip Rivers completed 24 of 38 passes for 266 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Ryan Mathews looked great yesterday for the Chargers as he carried the ball 21 times for 98 yards (4.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 4 passes for 51 yards (12.8 avg).  Mike Tolbert carried the ball 4 times for 19 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 24 yards (8.0 avg).  WR Vincent Jackson (5 rec, 63 yards), TE Randy McMichael (4 rec, 51 yards) and WR Patrick Crayton (5 rec, 47 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Chargers.  The Chargers rushed for 117 yards on 30 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 38 passes (63.2%) for 258 yards as they had possession of the ball for 34:43.

LB Donald Butler (8 tackles), CB Antoine Cason (6 tackles and 1 pass defensed) and LB Takeo Spikes (6 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Chargers in this game on D.  Safety Eric Weddle pitched in with 3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception in this game.  The Chiefs finished up with 81 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 24 passes (70.8%) for 171 yards.  The Chargers are now 2-1 on the year.

New England Patriots 35, San Diego Chargers 21

The Chargers had too many turnovers on offense and the defense was shoddy which conspired to do them in yesterday.  Philip Rivers was solid as he completed 29 of 40 passes for 378 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs.   Ryan Mathews led the way on the ground for the Chargers in this game with 64 yards rushing on 12 carries (5.3 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 62 yards (8.9 avg).  Mike Tolbert had a game to forget with 9 carries for 10 yards (1.1 ypc).  He also caught 8 passes for 73 yards (9.1 avg) but he lost a key fumble.  WR Vincent Jackson had a monster game for the Chargers yesterday with 10 grabs for 172 yards (17.2 avg) with 2 TD receptions.  WR Malcom Floyd pitched in with 2 catches for 59 yards (29.5 avg) in this game.  The Chargers finished up with 98 yards on 24 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 40 passes (72.5%) for 372 yards as they had possession of the ball for 30:58.

The defense didn’t play too well for the Chargers in this game.  Safety Eric Weddle was busy as he led the way for the Chargers with 12 tackles.  LBs Donald Butler (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) and Takeo Spikes (7 tackles and 1 pass defensed) also pitched in defensively in this game.  The Patriots finished up with 94 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.8 ypc) and they completed 31 of 40 passes (77.5%) for 410 yards.  The Chargers are now 1-1 on the year.

San Diego Chargers 24, Minnesota Vikings 17

The Chargers were down 7-0 in the first 15 seconds of the game yesterday as Percy Harvin returned the opening kickoff 103 yards for a TD!  The Chargers were sleepwalking during the first half yesterday as they were down 17-7.  But in the second half, the Chargers completely dominated this football game!  Philip Rivers was very efficient in this game as he completed 33 of 48 passes for 335 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Ryan Mathews led the way on the ground for the Chargers in this game as he carried the ball 12 times for 45 yards (3.8 avg).  Mathews also caught 3 passes for 73 yards (24.3 avg) in this game.  Mike Tolbert was a machine for the Chargers in this game.  He carried the ball 12 times for 35 yards (2.9 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 9 passes for 58 yards (6.4 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  TE Antonio Gates led the way in the passing game with 8 grabs for 74 yards (9.3 avg) yesterday.  The Chargers finished up with 77 yards rushing on 27 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 48 passes for 330 yards as they had possession of the ball for 37:17.

The defense had issues stopping Adrian Peterson in the first half of the game yesterday.  In the second half though, the Chargers’ D was completely dominating!  LB Takeo Spikes led the way for the Niners in this game with 11 tackles.  LB Donald Butler (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), safety Bob Sanders (6 tackles) and LB Shaun Phillips (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) also pitched in with solid games on D.  The Vikings finished up with 159 yards rushing on 26 carries (6.1 ypc) and they also completed 7 of 15 passes (46.7%) for 28 yards.  The Chargers start the season with a 1-0 record.

San Diego Chargers 33, Denver Broncos 28

The Chargers outlasted a pesky Broncos team in Denver yesterday.  Philip Rivers was so-so as he completed 21 of 37 passes for 313 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Ryan Mathews saved his best for last in this game as he carried the ball 26 times for 120 yards (4.6 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg) in this game.  Darren Sproles carried the ball 4 times for 43 yards (10.8 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 26 yards (13.0 avg) in this game.  WRs Legedu Naanee (4 rec, 79 yards), Malcolm Floyd (2 rec, 57 yards) and Vincent Jackson (3 rec, 53 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Chargers yesterday.  The Chargers finished up with 164 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 37 passes for 283 yards as they had possession of the football for 34:22 yesterday.

The defense was not too good yesterday for the Chargers.  LB Kevin Burnett (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), safety Eric Weddle (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and CB Quentin Jammer (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) led the way for the Chargers on D in this game.  The Broncos finished up with 146 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.0 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 36 passes for 191 yards.  The Chargers finished up with a 9-7 record which was good for 2nd in the AFC West.

Cincinnati Bengals 34, San Diego Chargers 20

The Bengals ambushed the Chargers yesterday as they outplayed them on both sides of the ball.  Philip Rivers didn’t have his best game as he completed 27 of 40 passes for 256 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Ryan Mathews led the way for the Chargers on the ground with 55 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.6 ypc) with a TD run.  He also caught 3 passes for 28 yards (9.3 avg) in this game.  Darren Sproles pitched in with 3 carries for 8 yards (2.7 ypc) and he also caught 8 passes for 55 yards (6.9 avg) in this game.  WRs Legedu Naanee (4 rec, 59 yards), Vincent Jackson (4 rec, 54 yards) and Kelley Washington (5 rec, 40 yards, TD) led the way for the Chargers in the passing game yesterday.  The Chargers finished up with 64 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 40 passes for 249 yards.

Safety Eric Weddle (16 tackles, 1 pass defensed), LB Antwan Applewhite (9 tackles) and DT Ogemdi Nwagbuo (fumble recovery) led the way for the Chargers’ D yesterday.  The Bengals finished up with 102 yards rushing on 38 carries (2.7 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 21 passes for 269 yards.  The Chargers are now 8-7 on the season as they were eliminated from the playoffs in Cincy.

San Diego Chargers 34, San Francisco 49ers 7

The Chargers completely dominated this game as the 49ers’ TD came during garbage time in late in the 4th quarter.  Philip Rivers was right on last night as he completed 19 of 25 passes for 273 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Ryan Mathews (17 carries, 56 yards) and Mike Tolbert (17 carries, 46 yards, TD) led the way for the Chargers on the ground in this game.  Darren Sproles only carried the ball 2 times for 1 yard (0.5 ypc) but he also caught 5 passes for 30 yards (6.0 avg) so he helped the cause last night.  Vincent Jackson really broke loose last night for the Chargers with 5 grabs for 112 yards (22.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  TE Randy McMichael pitched in with 5 grabs for 55 yards (11.0 avg) as he starting in place of an ailing Antonio Gates.  The Chargers finished up with 108 yards rushing on 41 carries (2.6 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 25 passes for 266 yards as they had possession of the ball for 37:11.

The Chargers put forth a great team effort on D as they sacked Alex Smith of the Niners 6 times (each by a different player).  LB Kevin Burnett led the way for the Chargers on D last night with 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit.  CB Dante Hughes (6 tackles) and safety Steve Gregory (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) also had solid games for the Chargers last night.  The 49ers finished up with 61 yards rushing on 15 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 29 passes for 131 yards.  The Chargers are know 8-6 on the season and they are very alive in the playoff  chase.

San Diego Chargers 31, Kansas City Chiefs 0

The Chargers completely dominated the Chiefs in this game.  Philip Rivers was efficient as he completed 18 of 24 passes for 226 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  The running game was spread out to give a lot of RBs a taste.  Mike Tolbert led the way for the Chargers in this game on the ground with 66 yards rushing on 16 carries (4.1 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Rookie Ryan Mathews pitched in with 65 yards rushing on 16 carries (4.1 ypc) with a TD run.  Darren Sproles was also a busy body with 6 carries for 53 yards (8.8 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 51 yards (10.2 avg).  WRs Malcolm Floyd (4 rec, 51 yards, 2 TDs) and Kelley Washington (3 rec, 50 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Chargers.  The Chargers finished up with 207 yards rushing on 43 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 24 passes for 219 yards as they had possession of the ball for 40:10!

The defense was awesome for the Chargers yesterday.  LB Antwan Barnes (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) and LB Larry English (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 2 QB hits) led the way for the D yesterday.  The Chiefs finished up with 48 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 9 of 20 passes for 19 yards.  The Chargers are now 7-6 on the season which has them only 1 game behind the Chiefs in the AFC West.
