The San Diego Chargers sign LB Nate Triplett

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 7 December 2011 at 11:06 pm

The Chargers have signed 24-year old LB Nate Triplett.  Triplett played in 3 games for the Colts earlier this year but he didn’t have any tackles.  Triplett has now played in 8 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 4 tackles.  This was a signing to add depth to the linebacking unit and probably special teams.  I don’t see Triplett making much of an impact for the Chargers this year.

The San Diego Chargers sign two offensive linemen

The San Diego Chargers have signed 28-year old OT Tony Moll and 29-year old G/T Ike Ndukwe.  Moll played in 16 games (3 starts) for the Ravens last year.  He has now played in 60 games (21 starts) in his first five years in the NFL.  Ndukwe didn’t play in any games last year.  He has now played in 33 games (18 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  Moll and Ndukwe will both likely get on the field soon for the Chargers as they have suffered some injuries along the O-Line.

The San Diego Chargers sign DE Everette Brown

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 2 November 2011 at 11:08 pm

The Chargers have signed 24-year old DE Everette Brown.  Brown played in 13 games for the Panthers last year and he had 25 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 28 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 47 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 tackles for a loss, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This is a good move for the Chargers, as Brown will likely help them with the pass rush.

The San Diego Chargers sign LB Gerald Hayes

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 11 October 2011 at 11:48 pm

The Chargers have signed 31-year old linebacker Gerald Hayes.  Hayes played in 6 games for the Cardinals last year and he had 33 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass defensed and 2 tackles for a loss.  He has now played in 94 games in his first seven years in the NFL and he has 428 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries, 4 interceptions (1 returned for a TD), 14 passes defensed and 26 tackles for a loss.  This was a good signing for the Chargers as Hayes will replace the injured Stephen Cooper.

UPDATE:  (11/9/2011) – The Chargers have released Gerald Hayes.  He didn’t get into any games for the Chargers in his time with the team.

The San Diego Chargers sign DT Tommie Harris

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 29 September 2011 at 10:38 pm

The Chargers have signed 28-year old DT Tommie Harris.  Harris played in 15 games for the Bears last year and he had 13 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 pass defensed.  Harris has now played in 104 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 213 tackles, 32 tackles for a loss, 28.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 7 fumble recoveries, 5 passes defensed and 1 interception.  With the Chargers losing so many defensive linemen due to injury, this signing makes perfect sense for them.

The San Diego Chargers sign safety Paul Oliver

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 22 September 2011 at 12:54 pm

The Chargers have signed 27-year old safety Paul Oliver.  Oliver was just let go by the Saints with an injury settlement but he appears to be o.k. physically.  Oliver played in all 16 games for the Chargers last year and he had 62 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  Oliver has now played in 44 games in his first three years in the NFL (all with the Chargers) and he has 126 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 3 interceptions, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 tackles for a loss.  This was a smart pickup for the Chargers as Oliver can step right in if needed because he knows the system.

The San Diego Chargers sign kicker Nick Novak

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 12 September 2011 at 8:56 pm

The Chargers have signed 30-year old kicker Nick Novak to replace Nate Kaeding.  Novak hasn’t kicked in a game since the 2008 season with the Chiefs.  He has played in 22 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has made 19 of 30 (63.3%).  He has also made all 32 of his extra point attempts, good for 89 points.  All I have to say about this signing is that punter Mike Scrifes should start practicing place kicking.

The San Diego Chargers sign LB Na’il Diggs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 5:28 pm

The Chargers have signed 33-year old linebacker Na’il Diggs.  Diggs played in 12 games for the Rams last year and he had 36 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, forced 1 fumble, recovered 1 fumble and he defensed 2 passes.  Diggs has now played in 157 games in his first 11 years in the NFL and he has 634 tackles, 56 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 31 passes defensed and 5 interceptions.  This was a good signing for the Chargers as Diggs will bring more toughness to the D when he’s on the field.

The San Diego Chargers sign LB Kevin Bentley

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 25 August 2011 at 2:44 pm

The Chargers have signed 31-year old linebacker Kevin Bentley.  Bentley played in 13 games for the Texans last year and he had 55 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  He has now played in 132 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 412 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 9 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  Bentley is a solid veteran linebacker who will help the Chargers out in 2011, providing them with quality depth.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Chargers have released Kevin Bentley.

The San Diego Chargers sign WR Laurent Robinson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 3:41 pm

The Chargers have signed 26-year old WR Laurent Robinson to a 1-year deal.  Robinson played in 14 games (11 starts) for the Rams last year and he caught 34 passes for 344 yards (10.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He has now played in 38 games (20 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 89 passes for 1,000 yards (11.2 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  This was a good signing for the Chargers as Robinson is a solid receiver when healthy.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Chargers have released Laurent Robinson.
