The Chargers have signed 29-year old linebacker Dontarrious Thomas. Thomas did not play in the NFL during the 2009 season. He has played in 63 games in his NFL career and he has made 144 tackles, defensed 2 passes, has 1.5 sacks and he has forced 1 fumble. The main job for Thomas during the playoffs will likely be on special teams for the Chargers.
The Chargers have signed 28-year old center Eric Ghiaciuc. Ghiaciuc played in 16 games (all starts) for the Bengals last season. He has now played in 48 games (42 starts) in his four years in the NFL. He should be a good back-up to Nick Hardwick the rest of the year for the Chargers.
The Chargers have signed 28-year old linebacker Marques Harris. Harris played in 4 games for the 49ers earlier this season making 6 tackles. He has now played five years in the NFL appearing in 60 games in which he has made 87 tackles, forced 3 fumbles, defensed 4 passes and he has 8 sacks. This was a good signing for depth at LB and the special teams.
The Chargers have signed 35-year old OT Jon Runyan to a 1-year deal. Runyan played in 16 games (all starts) for the Eagles last season. He has now played in 202 games (192 starts) in his 13-year NFL career. Runyan brings size (6′7″,330 pounds) and nastiness to the Chargers’ offensive line as this was a great signing for them.
The Chargers have signed 24-year old cornerback Daymeion Hughes. Hughes played in 14 games last season for the Colts and he made 20 tackles, defensed 2 passes and he had 1 interception. Hughes has now played in 24 games in his NFL career and he has made 34 tackles, defensed 4 passes and he has 1 interception. To make room on the roster for Hughes the Chargers have placed linebacker Antwan Applewhite on the Injured Reserve List with a hamstring injury. Losing Applewhite won’t hurt the Chargers as he didn’t get in any games this season.
UPDATE: The Chargers have released Daymeion Hughes after just getting a quick look-see at him. The Chargers have activated CB Simeon Castille off the practice squad and he will serve as the dime back.
