The San Diego Chargers lose Ogemdi Nwagbuo

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 10 December 2009 at 10:14 am

The Chargers have lost NT Ogemdi Nwagbuo for the season due to a ankle injury.  Nwagbuo played in 12 games for the Chargers this season and he made 19 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 2 passes defensed.  The Chargers have signed 30-year old DT Antonio Garay off the practice squad to replace Nwagbuo on the roster.  Garay has not played in the NFL since the 2007 season with the Chicago Bears.  Garay has played in 14 games in his career and he has 12 tackles.  Don’t expect miracles out of Garay.

San Diego Chargers 30, Cleveland Browns 23

Don’t be fooled by the final score of this game as it wasn’t close until the very end as the Chargers led the game 27-7 heading into the 4th quarter.  Philip Rivers was on all night long completing 18 of 25 passes for 373 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  WR Legedu Naanee completed his only pass attempt to LaDainian Tomlinson and it went to 21 yards.  LaDainian Tomlinson led the way on the ground for the Chargers in this game with 20 carries for 64 yards (3.2 ypc) with a TD run.  Darren Sproles pitched in with 7 carries for 27 yards (3.9 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 56 yards (14.0 avg) with a TD grab.  Antonio Gates had a monster game for the Chargers tonight with 8 catches for 167 yards (20.9 avg).  Fullback Mike Tolbert only caught 1 pass but it went for a 66-yard TD.  The Chargers finished up with 477 total yards on offense (91 rushing, 386 passing) in this game.

The Chargers’ D played pretty well for the first three quarters of this game before falling apart as the Browns outscored them 16-3 in the final quarter.  Safety Kevin Ellison led the way for the Chargers in this game with 8 tackles including 1 tackle for a loss.  LB Stephen Cooper had another solid game for the Chargers tonight with 7 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  The Browns  finished up with 372 total yards on offense (115 rushing, 257 passsing) in this game.  The Chargers are now 9-3 on the season and they are still sitting atop of  the AFC West.

San Diego Chargers vs. Cleveland Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 4 December 2009 at 11:20 am

These are two teams going in different directions as the Chargers have won six games in a row to improve to 8-3 on the year and the Browns are a almost hopeless 1-10 on the year.  The Chargers can’t afford to overlook the Browns and they won’t this Sunday.  The Chargers should be able to do whatever they want on offense in this game as the Browns are allowing 159.9 yards rushing (4.6 ypc) and 233.4 yards passing per game this year.  The thinking here is that the Chargers will throw to get the lead and then pound the Browns on the ground with LaDainian Tomlinson.  Look for Philip Rivers to work the short stuff to Antonio Gates to start the game and when the Browns’ safeties sneak up to deal with him then he will go up top to WRs Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson.  Rivers might have one of those rare games when the ball doesn’t hit the ground too much against an untalented defense.

The Browns will likely come out running the football with Chris Jennings and Jerome Harrison against a Chargers’ D that is allowing 118.1 yards rushing and 4.3 yards per carry.  But, the Browns will likely fall behind in this football game and if that happens they will need to take the shackles back off of Brady Quinn and let him throw the ball downfield.  Enough of the two yard passes already!  Chansi Stuckey could have a big game for the Browns as he runs decent patterns and he has decent hands.

PREDICTION:  CHARGERS 42, BROWNS 10

Look for LaDainian Tomlinson to look like his old self this week for the San Diego Chargers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 3 December 2009 at 11:30 am

The Cleveland Browns’ D will likely be the perfect tonic to revive LaDainian Tomlinson’s running this week.  The Browns are allowing 159.9 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so L.T. will likely get a lot of work this weekend and he will be successful as long as he doesn’t get hurt.  Tomlinson has played in 9 games this season for the Chargers and he has carried the ball 148 times for 497 yards (3.4 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He has also caught 10 passes for 45 yards (4.5 avg) this year.  So, if Chargers’ fans want to see the L.T. of old they need to tune in Sunday as he will likely run all over the Cleveland Browns.

The San Diego Chargers sign linebacker Marques Harris

The Chargers have signed 28-year old linebacker Marques Harris.  Harris played in 4 games for the 49ers earlier this season making 6 tackles.  He has now played five years in the NFL appearing in 60 games in which he has made 87 tackles, forced 3 fumbles, defensed 4 passes and he has 8 sacks.  This was a good signing for depth at LB and the special teams.
