The San Diego Chargers release CB Cletis Gordon

The Chargers have released 27-year old CB Cletis Gordon.  Gordon played in 14 games (1 start) for the Chargers last season and he made 13 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  In three seasons with the Chargers, Gordon played in 30 games (1 start) in which he made 29 tackles and defensed 3 passes.  The Chargers just got sick of waiting around for Gordon to show something and that’s why he’s looking for a job now.

The Chargers tried hard in this game but they were sloppy and it killed them on the scoreboard.  Philip Rivers made a brief appearance completing 5 of 8 passes for 26 yards.  Billy Volek followed Rivers and he has effective completing 8 of 12 passes for 122 yards.  Charlie Whitehurst finished up the game for the Chargers completing 15 of 29 passes for 193 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions.  Michael Bennett led the Chargers in rushing in this game with 21 yards on six carries (3.5 ypc) with a TD run.  WR Charly Martin led the Chargers in the passing game with 5 catches for 67 yards (13.4 avg).  The Chargers finished up this game with 384 total yards on offense (55 rushing, 329 passing) in this game.

The Chargers’ defense was effective in this game holding the Seahawks to 250 total yards on offense (92 rushing, 158 passing).  Linebackers Kevin Burnett and Jyles Tucker led the way for the Chargers with six tackles apiece.  Despite the loss this was a solid first game for the Chargers.
