The Chargers hire Norv Turner as the new Head Coach

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by ravenhater on Monday 19 February 2007 at 7:18 pm

One thing immediately comes to mind with the Chargers’ coaching hire……is A.J. Smith nuts?  Norv Turner is a good offensive co-ordinator, but he’s a lousy head coach!  In 9 seasons with the Redskins and Raiders, Turner has compiled a 58-82-1 (41.4%) record….which is awful.  The Chargers should have took a chance with a good young coach or hired a successful NFL head coach!  Turner and A.J. Smith will be judged on how far they get in the playoffs and if they don’t make it to the playoffs then they will take tremendous heat.  Turner has only led a team to the playoffs 1 time in 9 seasons and he’s taking over the favorite in Las Vegas to win the Super Bowl next season.

What were you thinking!!!!!

I am and have been a Charger fan for 30 plus years,  and for the life of me I can’t find or think of a valid reason you would hire a man to coach our team that has been fired by us and by the losing team (the Raiders!).

We have the best team in the NFL and you bring in a useless coach and for What reason? So we can become the laughing stock of football?  We will lose the team we love because of stupidity in the front office!!!

If you can clear this up for me please do but as it stands right now I think you owe the people that love this team a very good reason for hiring Norv Turner!!!!

Thank you, judy from Poway Ca.

Marty Schottenheimer fired by the Chargers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by ravenhater on Monday 12 February 2007 at 9:28 pm

Marty Schottenheimer was fired by the San Diego Chargers after he and General Manager A.J. Smith disagreed over staffing after the Chargers lost a bunch of assistant coaches.  Team President Dean Spanos informed Schottenheimer that is wasn’t going to work between him and Smith…..so Marty got the axe.  This is a terrible move for the Chargers to make right now.

Chargers get good production from their TEs this season

A good tight end is a young QBs best friend and it really helped young Philip Rivers in his first season as a starter.  The Chargers’ TEs caught 85 passes for 1,015 yards and had 12 TD catches last season.

Antonio Gates had another real good season for the Chargers.  He played in 16 games (all starts) and he caught 71 passes for 924 yards (13.0 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  Antonio Gates has had at least 70 catches, 924 yards and 9 TD catches for three consecutive seasons now!  For his career, Gates has played in 61 games (57 starts) and he’s caught 265 passes for 3,378 yards (12.7 avg) with 34 TD grabs.

Brandon Manumaleuna played in 16 games (7 starts) last season and he caught 14 passes for 91 yards (6.5 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  For his career, Manumaleuna has played in 94 games (62 starts) and he has caught 80 passes for 739 yards (9.2 avg) with 9 TD catches.
